She almost loved him--
He whispered sweet nothings in her ear
Courted her in ballrooms
And under the gazebo
Where honeysuckle bloomed
And he kissed her gloved hand
While making her promises
That were sweeter than the flowers' scent.

She truly loved him--
Dressed in glorious colors
Splendid and radiant
Awaiting those promises
That would twirl like the whirling couples
That swirled across the dance floor
Tumbling into her waiting ear.

She could not love him--
As she curled in her bed
Silent and mute
Remembering his cruel negligence
Crying endless tears
And not knowing why:
Whether for him
Or for her
Or for love.
"And all men kill the thing they love,
By all let this be heard,
Some do it with a bitter look,
Some with a flattering word,
The coward does it with a kiss,
The brave man with a sword! "
--Oscar Wilde, The Ballad of Reading Gaol

Inspired by my life. Based on Anna Karenina (which we're reading in English). In Anna Karenina, a girl named Kitty falls hopelessly in love with a man named Count Vronsky, who flirts with her and makes her think that he's going to propose, when he goes off and dances for an entire ball (big deal back then) with another woman.

So, I had to get some feelings out, and so I told Kitty's point of view in poetry.

It's truly great. It's... graceful, elegant.
